Erstwhile President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara, on Sunday assured that the South-East will throw their support behind the South-West to ensure that the geo-political zone emerge Peoples Democratic Party (PDp) national chairman.
According to him, the delegates from the South-East to the PDP forthcoming national convention in December will support the South-West so that the region will reciprocate by supporting South-East to produce a presidential candidate after the North.
He stated this in Ibadan on Sunday, where he said he was certain the PDP was going to emerge winner of the 2019 presidential election.
“I have no doubt that we are going to grab power from the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State but I cannot begin to tell you the strategies in place for our party. As an Igboman, we wish to produce the president of Nigeria after the North, so we are going to sacrifice the chairmanship of the party for the South-West. We will support the South-West so as for them to support us when the time comes.
“The South-East is not in the race for national chairmanship of the party. We are now humble so that we can achieve our goals soon,” he said.
Some aggrieved members of the party had also on Sunday submitted petitions to Wabara following the outcome of the party’s ward congresses on Saturday.
But Wabara, while noting that the PDP was wise to learn from its mistake by choosing right candidates for the chairmanship position and other elective positions in the last elections, explained that the PDP will continue to be careful while dealing with internal issues in order not to allow such issues destabilise the current reconciliation efforts of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee.
