EDO 2028: EHIME EHIJATOR ISIBOR CONDEMNS ATTACK ON IMASUANGBON, OKONOFUA’S CONVOY

Hon. Ehime Ehijator Isibor, an African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant for the 2028 Edo State election, has condemned the reported attack on the convoy of Kenneth Imasuangbon and Hon. Herberta Inemezele Okonofua, the ADC senatorial candidate for Edo Central Senatorial District.

Isibor described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable in a democratic society, warning that political disagreements must never degenerate into violence or threats to human life.

The attack, reportedly carried out by hoodlums believed to be affiliated with the ruling party, nearly claimed the lives of two members of the convoy, who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.

The development has reportedly sent shock waves across Edo Central, with residents expressing concern over the incident and calling on security agencies to take urgent steps to prevent a recurrence.

Reacting to the attack, Hon. Isibor expressed dismay over the development, stressing that no political ambition should justify the endangerment of human lives.

“Politics should never be taken to the level where human lives are threatened. No political ambition is worth the life of any Nigerian. Democracy allows us to disagree, compete, and hold different opinions, but violence must never become a tool for settling political differences,” he stated.

The ADC gubernatorial aspirant urged the relevant security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly, identify those responsible, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

He emphasized that the safety of political leaders, party supporters, and ordinary citizens must be guaranteed, irrespective of their political affiliations.

Isibor further warned that political violence could heighten tensions, undermine public confidence in the democratic process, and discourage citizens from participating freely in political activities.

He maintained that Edo State must not be allowed to become an environment where political opponents are intimidated, attacked, or prevented from exercising their constitutional rights.

The aspirant therefore called on security agencies to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident critically and implement proactive measures to protect political stakeholders across the state.

He also urged political leaders across party lines to caution their supporters against violence, intimidation, and the use of firearms to settle political disagreements.

According to him, maintaining peace is a collective responsibility that requires the commitment of political parties, their leaders, their supporters, and security agencies.

Hon. Isibor expressed concern for the two convoy members who reportedly sustained gunshot injuries, wishing them a speedy recovery and calling for appropriate measures to safeguard their welfare.

He reiterated that every Nigerian has the right to campaign, associate with a political party, and participate in the democratic process without fear of violence.

As political activities continue ahead of the 2028 Edo State governorship election, the aspirant urged residents to remain calm and allow security agencies to conduct a professional investigation into the incident.

He stressed that political competition should be guided by tolerance, mutual respect, and adherence to the rule of law rather than hostility and confrontation.

“The people of Edo State deserve peace, security, and an environment where everyone can pursue their political aspirations without fear. We must collectively reject political violence and ensure that disagreements are resolved through dialogue and democratic engagement,” he added.

Hon. Ehime Ehijator Isibor concluded by calling for a comprehensive investigation into the reported attack, emphasizing that the protection of human lives and the preservation of peace must take precedence over partisan interests.
