Electronic Transmission of Results: A Calculated Assault on Nigeria’s Democracy

Nigeria stands once again at a dangerous crossroads. The ongoing attempt by the Tinubu-led APC government to undermine the electronic transmission of election results is not about reform, innovation, or electoral integrity. It is a deliberate, calculated plan to manipulate the 2027 general elections and impose power on Nigerians against their will.

This desperation did not arise in a vacuum. It is born out of clear awareness within government circles that the APC can no longer win a free, fair, and transparent election in Nigeria. After years of economic hardship, rising insecurity, youth unemployment, a collapsing naira, and deepening poverty, the verdict of Nigerians is obvious: this government has failed abysmally.

Rather than return to the people with solutions, the APC has chosen the darker path—tampering with the electoral process itself.

Electronic transmission of results was introduced to reduce rigging, human interference, and post-election manipulation. Nigerians embraced it because it brought hope that their votes would finally count. Now, that very safeguard is being targeted, weakened, and quietly dismantled under the guise of “legislative review.” The motive is clear: restore opacity so rigging can thrive again.

Most shameful in this unfolding tragedy is the role of the Senate and House of Representatives. These institutions exist to protect the will of the people, yet they have repeatedly betrayed that trust. This time, the betrayal cuts deeper. Lawmakers who should defend democracy have instead sold their conscience, choosing personal gain over national interest. Nigerians have been disappointed many times, but this ranks among the worst.

Even more painful is the silence—or worse, open support—of once-respected voices. Figures like Adams Oshiomhole, who once stood as symbols of struggle and resistance, now openly back an unpopular and dangerous agenda because of the benefits they derive from the system. History will not forget this reversal. It is a tragic fall from principle and a stain on the legacy of people who once inspired hope.

The Nigerian people are not fooled.

Across the country, citizens are saying NO to any plan designed to truncate democracy and steal the 2027 elections. This resistance is not driven by sentiment but by reality. For the first time in years, Nigeria has a strong, credible, and fast-growing opposition in the ADC—a movement that has gained massive grassroots support. This growing popularity is precisely why the government is panicking.

That panic has taken an even more sinister turn. Reports of arson attacks and violent disruptions targeting ADC secretariats across the country reflect a ruling party acting out of fear, frustration, and loss of legitimacy. These acts are not signs of strength; they are confessions of weakness.

Democracy cannot survive intimidation. It cannot survive manipulated laws. It cannot survive compromised institutions.

Nigerians are alert. Nigerians are united. Nigerians are determined.

The plan to steal the 2027 election will be resisted—peacefully, lawfully, and collectively. The will of the people is stronger than any rigged system. No amount of legislative gymnastics or political intimidation can suppress a nation that has decided to defend its future.

This is not just about an election.
It is about the soul of Nigeria’s democracy.
