THE DEAL BUHARI SIGNED IN AMERICA China is about to enforce new tax on American agricultural products in the next few weeks and President Trump needs new markets for American farm produce before calling the bluff of China. He approached Nigeria, Brazil and Argentina to take American farm produce in exchange for security deals. Nigeria is the highest consumer of Chinese soya beans in the world; with Nigeria signing an arms deal that includes military hardware transfer, 12 Tuscanos jets, training and parts, we can cut off China and embrace USA. So thought the President and his team! Trump clearly stated he’s not interested in Nigeria oil or any other thing but to provide new markets for American farmers that will be affected by Chinese new tariff. He is not buying anything from us; he is not investing anything in Nigeria. He pure created markets for two business groups (Dangote and American farmers) represented by Presidents Trump and Buhari. Here’s the problem: Insecurity in Nig...

Arrests Of Kidnappers, Otasowie’s Murderers Justify Obaseki’s Insistence On New CP – Edo State Govt.

The Edo State Government has said that the recent arrests by the State Police Command of seven persons in connection with the murder of Prof. Paul Otasowie, a lecturer with the University of Benin, killers of three police officers who also kidnapped Andy Ehanire, the Chief Executive of Ogba Zoological Garden, justify Obaseki’s insistence on a new commissioner of police for the state. While commending the new Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, the state government, through the Special Adviser, Media and Communication Strategy to the Edo State Governor, Crusoe Osagie, stated that the security challenges in Edo required a highly experienced operational police officer at the helms of affairs and that it is quite gratifying that CP Kokuma has since hit the ground running, “a result of which is the large hurl of arrests in barely 48 hours of his assumption of duty in Edo State”. Otasowie, a senior lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, was on October ...

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, award winning Nigerian writer, says president Muhammadu Buhari wasted the chance to make “real reforms” in the early days of his administration. In an article written for the New York Times, Adichie said Buhari’s outdated economic ideology and the seemingly selective corruption war had led to a “declining hope” in his government. She noted that Buhari had, in many situations, appeared disengaged, saying his “tone and demeanour” were reminiscent of 1984 when he was a military head of state. Adicihie wrote: “For the first weeks of his presidency, it was said that civil servants who were often absent from work suddenly appeared every day, on time, and that police officers and customs officials stopped demanding bribes. He had an opportunity to make real reforms early on, to boldly reshape Nigeria’s path. He wasted it. “Perhaps the first clue was the unusually long time it took him to appoint his ministers. After an ostensible search for the very best, he ...

Edo First Lady Collaborates With Stakeholders On Reduction Of Neonatal Deaths

Image
The wife of the Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki is collaborating with stakeholders in the health sector to reduce the death of neonates (babies between 0- 28 days old) in the state. Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting on the prevention of neonatal deaths in the state, organised in Benin City on Monday, Mrs. Obaseki said that more collaborations are needed to strengthen the country’s health sector. She assured that she would continue to partner with other stakeholders to implement the Essential New-born Care Cost (ENCC), an initiative of the federal government launched in 2016, that is geared towards reduction of neonatal deaths in the country. The First Lady urged stakeholders to take the collaboration seriously and bring in their wealth of experience to ensure that the ENCC initiative succeeds in the state. Delivering his speech, Dr Ikechukwu Okonwko, a Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), said that a nation...
