ADC E-Registration Surge Signals Rising Momentum as Nigerians Seek Political Change
The ongoing electronic registration exercise of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has witnessed an overwhelming turnout across Nigeria, particularly in Edo State, where thousands of citizens are trooping to the party’s portal to enlist as members. The massive rush to register is widely seen as a reflection of the growing desire among Nigerians to reshape the country’s political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Observers say the unprecedented volume of registrations demonstrates a rising level of political awareness among citizens who are determined to participate actively in the democratic process. Many residents of Edo State and other parts of the country believe the coming election cycle will provide an opportunity for Nigerians to express their democratic will through the ballot.
However, the exercise has not been without challenges. Reports of attacks and disruptions targeting ADC meetings and gatherings across the state have raised concerns about political intolerance. These incidents have been widely condemned by civil society groups and political observers who warn that violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society. The alleged disruptions are viewed by many as attempts to suppress the growing political momentum surrounding the party’s grassroots mobilisation.
Despite these challenges, ADC leaders say the party remains resolute and committed to strengthening democratic participation. Speaking on the development, the Edo North Chairman for Contact and Mobilisation, Hon. Daniel Asekhame, urged citizens to continue registering in large numbers through the ongoing e-registration process.
According to him, registration is only the first step in building a strong grassroots political structure. He encouraged all registered members to proceed to their respective wards to collect their official party membership cards and integrate fully into the party’s local structures.
Hon. Asekhame also called on party members and supporters to remain vigilant and cautious in the face of any external disturbances that may threaten their safety or disrupt political activities. He stressed that democratic engagement must remain peaceful, disciplined, and organized despite the challenges.
“The enthusiasm we are witnessing today shows that people are ready to participate actively in shaping the future of our country. Members should continue to register massively and collect their party cards at their wards. At the same time, they must remain vigilant and united,” he stated.
He further noted that preparations are underway for the upcoming ADC Edo State Congress, where a new state executive committee will be elected to pilot the affairs of the party and strengthen its structures across all local government areas.
Political analysts believe that the congress will play a crucial role in consolidating the party’s organizational strength and preparing it for the political contests ahead.
As Nigeria moves steadily toward the 2027 elections, the surge in ADC membership and the ongoing mobilization across communities signal an increasingly competitive political environment. For many citizens, participation in the registration process represents not only party membership but also a broader commitment to democratic engagement and national renewal.
With the Edo State congress approaching and grassroots mobilization intensifying nationwide, ADC leaders remain confident that the energy currently being witnessed across the country will translate into significant political impact in the years ahead.
