What the Edo State ADC Must Do to Win the Presidential Election

As Nigeria approaches another defining presidential election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State stands at a critical crossroads. Winning Edo’s votes will not happen by chance; it will require strategy, discipline, grassroots mobilization, and clear leadership. To succeed, the party must fully activate its structures, empower women and youths, ensure responsible leadership at the state level, and intelligently exploit the weaknesses and contradictions of the ruling party at the national level.

The foundation of any electoral victory is a solid grassroots presence. The ADC in Edo State must strengthen its ward, local government, and senatorial district structures. Party offices should not exist only in name; they must function as mobilization and coordination centers.

Regular town hall meetings, community outreach programs, and issue-based engagement will help the party connect with voters at the grassroots. The message must be simple and consistent: ADC represents competence, inclusiveness, and a clear break from failed governance.

Edo voters, like many Nigerians, are frustrated by hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and poor governance. The ADC must present clear solutions to these problems rather than vague promises.

The party’s message should focus on:

Economic empowerment and job creation

Security and protection of lives and property

Education and healthcare reforms

Anti-corruption and accountability

A clear ideological identity will help ADC distinguish itself from older parties that many voters associate with failure.

Women form a significant percentage of registered voters in Edo State. The ADC must not treat women as mere supporters but as active leaders and decision-makers.

Women should:

Lead ward and local government mobilization teams

Organize market, church, mosque, and community-based outreach

Serve as campaign ambassadors in families and neighborhoods

Actively participate in policy discussions and campaign strategy

When women are empowered, voter turnout increases, credibility improves, and the party’s message spreads faster at the grassroots level.

Youth participation is not optional; it is decisive. Edo State has a large youth population that is politically aware, digitally connected, and eager for change.

Youths should:

Drive social media campaigns and digital advocacy

Organize door-to-door voter education and mobilization

Protect votes by serving as polling unit agents and observers

Promote peaceful participation and resist vote-buying

The ADC must speak the language of the youth—jobs, innovation, inclusion, and opportunity—while giving them real roles, not symbolic positions.

The state party leadership carries a heavy responsibility. Unity, transparency, and discipline must be non-negotiable.

The state leader and executives must:

Manage internal conflicts fairly and quickly

Ensure transparent candidate selection and decision-making

Coordinate effectively with the national leadership

Motivate party members and prevent defections

Provide clear direction and strategic focus

A divided party cannot win elections. Strong, humble, and inclusive leadership will inspire confidence among members and voters alike.

The ruling party’s greatest advantage—control of federal power—has also become its biggest weakness. Rising inflation, insecurity, high taxation, and widespread hardship have created deep voter dissatisfaction.

The ADC must:

Highlight the gap between ruling party promises and reality

Use facts and lived experiences to expose governance failures

Position ADC as a credible and prepared alternative, not just an opposition party

Appeal to voters who feel betrayed but still desire stability and competence

By focusing on issues rather than insults, the ADC can win the trust of undecided voters and those disillusioned with the ruling party.

Winning at the polls is not enough; votes must be protected. The ADC must train agents, deploy legal teams, and work with civil society to ensure transparency and credibility throughout the electoral process.

For the ADC to win Edo State’s presidential votes, the party must combine strong leadership, grassroots organization, active participation of women and youths, and a compelling alternative to failed governance. Edo people are ready for change, but that change must be organized, disciplined, and credible.

If the ADC gets it right, Edo State can become a strong pillar of national victory and a symbol of Nigeria’s political renewal.
