Wife of ailing President Muhammadu Buhari returned from the United Kingdom early hours of Thursday and shortly after flew into Owerri, Imo State capital, for Imo women August Meeting.
The August Meeting is an annual event where Imo women and other women from South-East Nigeria gather to discuss issues of development in the region, states and communities.
Apparently troubled by the activities of pro-Biafra groups in the South-East, the First Lady drummed the need for a united Nigeria when she spoke at the meeting.
Charging the women to work towards conflict resolution and peaceful coexistence in various communities, Aisha said, “This gathering is a celebration of the resourcefulness of womanhood. It is important because at meetings like this, Igbo women gather to discuss developmental issues and peaceful coexistence at the community levels.”
The host, wife of Imo State Governor, Nkechi Rochas Okorocha, added, “Women, now is the time for us all to answer this clarion call of coming together to continue building and fortifying bridges of friendship across the Niger and to believe in the mantra that there is strength in unity.”

The women present at the occasion resolved they were going to mobilise and counter hate speeches and tribal sentiments in the country.
Confirming Aisha’s return from London earlier, the Director of Information to the Wife of the President, Suleiman Haruna, had said, “Yes. I can confirm that Her Excellency is back. She returned to the country this morning and proceeded to Owerri for a function organised by the state governor ’s wife.”
Aisha had on July 4 embarked on a second trip to be with her ailing husband, who has been in London for 88 days, after his return to UK for second medical vacation on May 7.
