Analysis of the Questionable Edo State Governorship Election Results as Declared by INEC

After the elections that shook the country because of the impunity demonstrated by the INEC, police and the Edo state government, analysts have declared that Owan west L.G.A. had the best PDP performance in the elections. The APC won the L.G.A. with the smallest margin in the PDP dominated LGA with a 2000 vote difference.

However the PDP in the LGA have refuted the results saying “the PDP won the LGA and not the APC, we were so surprised that when the results were later announced the APC was declared to have won the LGA. This is daylight robbery supported by the governor and the federal government.” Furthermore PDP members recall the battle that took place to secure victory for the PDP in the elections.

The major actors on the APC side in the LGA are the sitting Secretary to the State Government (SSG):

  1. Professor Julius Ihonvere (SSG)
  2. Hon. Johnson Abolagba (Former member House of Reps, LGA chairman)
  3. Hon Ojo Assein (Sitting member Edo House of Ass., chairman LGA)
  4. Hon. Macdonald Obasuke (Sitting state commissioner)
  5. Austin Atakpa (Snr special adviser to Edo state governor}

On the PDP side were:

  1. Hon Daniel Asekhame (3 term fmr LGA chairman)
  2. Monday Ogbeta (PDP LGA chairman)
  3. Davidson Imorgan (Fmr commissioner of health)
  4. Prophet Ojo Agge
  5. Alh Tanko bIgien

Looking closely at the structure of both sides it is evident that APC had people influential in the state government of the day who are fully backed by the governor Oshiomole while the PDP side had younger generation politicians who had a strong resolve to defeat the APC and they have come out to say they actually won the elections in the LGA conclusively

Going by the ratings of the INEC results, Owan was the best performing LGA for the PDP in the just concluded elections. The PDP in the LGA has extended their thanks to their team especially Hon. Dan Asekhame and Prophet Ojo Agge who ensured that PDP made the mark using by all means legally possible. They expressed pride in the effort of these men during the elections.

The people interviewed said the LGA PDP chairman Monday Ogbeta should also be commended for the fatherly role he played in resolving issues that enabled the party to win inspite of the bogus results declared by INEC. The people have been reassured by the PDP to await the outcome of the election tribunal case that will soon come up as the LGA has so many incriminating evidences to tender before the tribunal to show the PDP won the elections in the LGA.
