According to new reports, Caleb, who is a 22-year final year student of the University of Benin, smashed his 55-year-old mother's head and ripped her womb opened with a broken bottle because she refused to give him money. Caleb is the last child of his mother. Caleb had asked for money from his mother who operates a beer parlor, to run to school. Her refusal to grant his request got him angry. He locked her in a room, used a broken bottle to smash her head and body repeatedly until she died. Neighbors who rushed to rescue her, met him with her intestines in his hands. Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Moses Nkombe wh, said Caleb had been arrested by the police.

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday September 26, discovered a fake military base operating in Okpokwu, Benue state. The fake soldiers in the base are believed to have been operating a criminal enterprise where they trained high profile criminals. The entrance to the fake base had a signpost with the inscription "Coastal Defence Force 4th Arms. Signal Ship Base. Okpokwu, Benue State Command" They were caught with full military fatigues and weapons like cutlasses and what appeared to be locally-made riffles.

Alexei Navalny, the principal figure in a galvanised protest movement against the country’s leadership and main Russian opposition leader was detained today ahead of a rally. Navalny said he was detained in the lobby of his apartment building in Moscow.  The rally was supposed to take place in Russia’s fifth-largest city,  Nizhny Novgorod,  about three hours away by high-speed train. State media reports authorities as saying Navalny was detained for calling on supporters to attend unauthorised rallies. But Navalny insists that the rally was authorised. “This is, of course, a new level. Now they are detaining me for an attempt to take part in a sanctioned meeting,” Navalny said on Twitter. One former UN official said the head of the UN in Myanmar (Burma) tried to prevent human rights advocates from visiting sensitive Rohingya areas. A heartless man has been held without bond after he reportedly killed his own daughter by punching her. An Orange County man is facing charges in connection with the death of his 6-month-old daughter, who was found with a fractured skull two weeks ago, WeshNews reported. The man identified as Dekari Castell, 22 was arrested by Orlando police on a charge of aggravated child abuse, but the charge was upgraded to first-degree murder on Tuesday, officials said. Investigators said Castell told them he punched his daughter in the head while staying at his mother’s house after Hurricane Irma. He allegedly said he “was highly stressed as a result of being without power during the hurricane,” and said his daughter “would not stop crying,” according to investigators. Cameroon has deported 100,000 Nigerian refugees in the hope of stemming the spread of terrorist group Boko Haram, Human Rights Watch (HWR) said on Wednesday. The group said in its new report that the deportation defied a plea by UN refugee agency to not return anyone to north-eastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram killed thousands of people, until security and human rights situation improved considerably.” The HRW report noted that the deported people were likely to face new violence, displacement and destitution. The group, which investigates allegations of human rights abuses worldwide, says the report is based on interviews with more than 60 refugees. It added that soldiers tortured, assaulted and sexually exploited Nigerian asylum seekers and denied them access to the UN refugee agency. University of Ibadan have resumed academic and commercial activities after a six-week strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The students have started receiving lectures, while administrative offices were also open for operations. Non-academic staff members were seen in their various offices while businesses in the university were full of activities. Some students, who spoke with NAN, expressed happiness at the suspension of the strike. They thanked ASUU and the Federal Government for fruitful dialogue which led to the suspension of the strike. A first-year law student, Miss Oluwadamilola Salako, told NAN that she was happy when ASUU ended the strike. Catt Gallinger, a model has lost the sight in one of her eyes after getting a tattoo on her eyeball.
